The World Class Avocado

29th August, 2012
Avocados Barbados

We over at Loop Barbados are so incredibly excited that it's that time of year again - Avocado season. Originating in Central America, Avocados were not introduced into the Caribbean until the 17th century. Not like most Avocados found in North America and Canada, Barbadian Avocados are much bigger in size and more complex in taste. Our favorite variety - the 'butter Avocado' - is rich, creamy and like its names implies, extremely buttery. Locals eat Avocados in a variety of forms and fashions, however the most popular way no doubt, is with pickled cucumber. It is so simple yet delicious. Just add avocado to some sliced cucumber, lime juice (fresh), salt, grated onion and voila..you have a tasty side dish!

Avocados in Barbados

Plus, not only is avocado one of the tastiest fruits, it is also one of the healthiest in the world! With nutrients such as vitamin K, potassium, fiber, frolic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin C and copper, this fruit is found to inhibit cancerous growth as well as aid your body in absorbing other nutrients. This fruit is a all-round winner!
